Launching CPD accredited GDPR training for will writers

We are very pleased to launch data protection and GDPR training for will writers accredited for CPD by our partner, the Society of Will Writers.

The online training course ‘data protection & GDPR for will writers’ is offered on Astrid's online learning platform. Available to any will writer or estate planner, the course has been developed in collaboration with the Society of Will Writers and counts for one hour of CPD for members.

Will writers’ GDPR training content

The course is comprised of bite-sized videos, templates and tests covering both general data protection and will writer specific content including:

  • An introduction to GDPR
  • Your responsibilities when handling personal information
  • The lifecycle of personal information
  • Breaches of personal data
  • Good practice when handling personal information
  • Threats to security: hackers and phishing attacks
  • Sharing personal information with others
  • Subject information requests
  • Data protection issues for will writers
  • Everything you need to have set up to comply with GDPR

Those that work through all the elements and complete the course are issued with a certificate which provides the evidence Society of Will Writers (SoWW) needs to validate the CPD. Priced at only £29,99 the course is affordable for all will writers and estate planners. Course participants are also offered a 20% discount off an Astrid subscription providing them with all the tools and guidance required to become and remain compliant with GDPR.

CPD with the Society of Will Writers

With Covid-19 preventing physical attendance at training events, the SoWW is providing online courses to help enable members to complete their CPD requirements. The hour CPD provided by our data protection & GDPR course meets SoWW’s structured training requirements if members submit their course certificate with their CPD log sheet and evidence at membership renewal.

Why is GDPR training important?

The ICO expects everyone who handles personal information to receive data protection training and have a basic understanding of their, and the organisation’s, responsibilities. The ICO also want to see that the organisation has a record of this.

The majority of data problems arise from human error. In 2019, eight out of every ten data incidents reported to the ICO were caused by simple human error (rather than a computer hacker attack). The regulator dislikes problems that happen but could have been prevented with basic knowledge and simple training!
